What Is a Jentera Ladang? Malaysia's 3-Wheel Farm Truck (Mechanical Buffalo) Explained
Share
If you farm or manage an estate in Malaysia, you have probably heard the term jentera ladang. It is the local name for the small, rugged work vehicles that move harvested crops out of the field. This guide explains what a jentera ladang is, the main types available, how much they carry, and how to buy the right one for your plantation.
What is a jentera ladang?
Jentera ladang is Malay for "farm machine" or "estate machinery". In everyday plantation use it most often refers to the 3-wheel agriculture mini truck — also called the mechanical buffalo (kerbau jentera) — a compact, single-operator vehicle built to haul fresh fruit bunches (FFB), latex, fruit and supplies along narrow estate paths. Unlike a pickup or tractor-trailer, a 3-wheel jentera ladang is narrow enough to turn inside palm and rubber rows and light enough to work soft, wet ground without bogging down. You can read the full category overview in our 3-wheel agriculture trucks in Malaysia guide.
What types of jentera ladang are used in Malaysia?
Most working jentera ladang fall into a few groups. Manual-tip 3-wheel trucks, like the diesel BYSON X-600, carry loads up to 700 kg and tip by hand — the simplest, lowest-cost option. Hydraulic-tilt trucks, like the X-800, raise and tip the bucket hydraulically so one person can unload without lifting. Jacklift trucks, like the X-900, add a hydraulic lift that raises the bucket 3.5–7 ft to discharge straight into a bin or trailer. There are also electric models entering the market for quieter, lower-running-cost work. Browse the full range in the mechanical agriculture truck collection.
How much can a jentera ladang carry?
A typical 3-wheel jentera ladang carries between 500 kg and 700 kg of working payload, which is enough for in-field FFB evacuation, fruit collection or moving bagged fertiliser and supplies. The BYSON X-600, X-800 and X-900 are all rated up to 700 kg. The X-900 Jacklift is additionally certified to a 1,000 kg static load under SIRIM QAS testing. Because the load sits low and central over the rear axle, these trucks stay stable on slopes and uneven ground where a heavier 4-wheel vehicle would struggle.
Which crops and terrain is a jentera ladang best for?
The 3-wheel jentera ladang is built for Malaysia's plantation crops: palm oil, rubber, durian, pineapple, paddy and cocoa. It also works well in nurseries, warehouses, construction sites and other off-road industrial settings. Its strengths are narrow rows, muddy harvest-season ground, and steep or hilly estate terrain — exactly the conditions covered in our palm oil plantation transport guide. For high-volume FFB work, the hydraulic X-900 Jacklift cuts manual lifting and speeds up the trip to the collection point or mill.
How do you buy a jentera ladang in Malaysia?
When choosing a supplier, check that the truck is tested to recognised standards, that spare parts are stocked locally, and that service is available near your estate. BYSON Engineering has built agriculture machinery in Kluang, Johor for over 40 years; the X-900 Jacklift is individually SIRIM QAS tested, and the X-600 and X-800 are built on the same SIRIM-tested chassis and bucket platform as the X-900. Pricing is quote-based to match your model, terrain and fleet size. To get a quote or arrange a demo, WhatsApp BYSON at +6012-2998566 or +6017-3018566, or start with the entry-level diesel X-600. Frequently asked questions
Does jentera ladang mean the same thing as mechanical buffalo?
In practice, yes. "Mechanical buffalo" (kerbau jentera) is the popular nickname for the 3-wheel agriculture jentera ladang, because it does the heavy field-hauling work that water buffalo once did on Malaysian estates.
Is a jentera ladang road-legal?
A 3-wheel agriculture truck is designed for in-field and estate use rather than highway travel. It is intended to move crops and supplies within and around plantations, nurseries and worksites.
Are BYSON jentera ladang SIRIM tested?
The BYSON X-900 Jacklift is individually SIRIM QAS tested. The X-600 and X-800 are built on the same SIRIM-tested chassis and bucket platform as the X-900, but are not individually SIRIM-certified.
